Sweets by Natalie Kay

Adding to the Repertoire

I recently completed a skills course for creating piped flowers. From lilies to peonies to roses, I’ve got quite a few new skills in the repertoire. This cake was made as the class “final.” It includes a rope border technique, a basketweave on the side, roses and leaves. As I’ll be taking it to work tomorrow, I couldn’t help but put a fun message on the top! Did you hear that co-workers? You’ll have to visit my cube for a sweet treat.

Chocolate for my Love

For my husband’s birthday I made a chocolate Guinness cake. The cream cheese frosting ends up looking like the froth on top of a cold one. Happy Birthday love!

Charlie is 2!

My coworker Zoe’s son Charlie is turning 2 today! He is a true boy and loves anything with wheels. For his cupcakes, we decided on “dirt” covered cupcakes with wheels and a few with the number 2. (Don’t worry, the dirt is actually graham crackers and Oreo crumbs.

Cupcakes Are For Lovers

Nate and Athena had a casual barbecue for family and friends tonight, the eve of their wedding! I was excited to have carte blanche for the evening’s sweets. My only direction was to bring cupcakes! These chocolate cupcakes are topped with a swirl of vanilla buttercream and two hearts (in the wedding colors) stamped with the couple’s initials. I also had fun using some of my cake plates to display the treats.

Cant’ wait for tomorrow’s festivities. Here’s a sneak peek of the photos from the rehearsal!

Kirsten’s Baby Shower

chrysanthemum

My co-worker Nicole commissioned these cupcakes to match the Chrysanthemum invites sent out for Kirsten’s baby shower. The cupcakes themselves are carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Not quite a “push gift”, but I hope they makes Kirsten’s last few weeks of pregnancy a little sweeter!
